Preserving our heritage: Obasanjo condemns removal of history from curriculum

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has spoken out against the removal of History from the country’s educational curriculum, calling it a “huge disaster”.

Obasanjo made his remarks at the Africa Methodist Council Heads of Conference Summit and Women’s Movement Leadership Summit.

He likened the removal of History to “losing one’s memory” and expressed concern that it could lead to a repeat of past mistakes.

Obasanjo criticized the decision to remove History from schools, calling it a “stupid idea”.

He emphasized the importance of teaching History to understand the past and learn from it.

Obasanjo also highlighted the need to preserve the history of the black race, including the experiences of slavery, slave trade, and colonialism.

He noted that some people are trying to distort the history of the slave trade, and emphasized the importance of keeping its truth alive.

Obasanjo announced his personal initiative to work with others to preserve the history of the slave trade and ensure its truth is not erased.

He emphasized the importance of teaching History in schools, saying “We must not allow anyone to say the slave trade is not a true story.”

Obasanjo’s remarks underscore the importance of preserving our cultural heritage and ensuring that future generations understand their history.
