UTME: Ex-Education Minister commends JAMB leadership over seamless take-off

Former Minister of Education, Professor Chinwe Obaji has commended the Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede over the smooth take off of this year’s UTME.

Her observation is hinged on the hands-on reports she got when she visited some CBT centres at Karu Jikwoyi-Maraba-Asokoro axis as part of her monitoring activities.

“There are neither technical hitches, nor biometric issues that bedevilled the past era. Thanks to the JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede and his reforms, the yearly exams are now free of complaints”, Professor Obaji said.

At the Junior Secondary School School, Jikwoyi, the first set of 190 had 9 absentees and only one unverifiable candidate who was rescheduled, while the second set of 194 had six absentees according to officials.
At 23 Technologies Limited NAF Valley Estate behind Abacha barracks at Asokoro, there were no issues of verification with the two sessions they had.

At EMIS CBT in Epitome Islamic School, off Abacha Road, Old Karu Road, out of the 250 candidates that registered for the morning session, there was only one case of an unverified candidate and 14 absentees. The second session witnessed no issue of verification or biometrics.

At Aunty’s Alice College in Maraba, there are 27 absentees out of two sessions making up 500 for the first day of the UTME exams. No problems were recorded.

The former minister who was in the company of this reporter hailed the exercise as starting on a sound footing, while hoping for a successful conduct throughout the country.

“I am impressed with what I saw in the centres I visited. I haven’t heard of any problems in any part of the country. It means JAMB is already on a successful tragetory. I hope this continues up to the end of the examinations”, the former minister whose tenure witnessed the introduction of post UTME exams stated.
