A Kano State High Court has sentenced a Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong to death by hanging for killing his girlfriend, Ummukhulsum Buhari.
Quangrong stabbed Ummukhulsum to death over an alleged claim that she was no longer interested in the relationship.
Until her death, her ex-girlfriend, Ummukulsum Buhari was a resident of the Janbulo area of the Kano metropolis.
It was reported that on the evening of September 16, 2022, Mr Geng came to the house of Ummukhulsum and knocked at the door frantically around 8 pm, and later forced himself into the house around 9 pm.
Once inside the house, the Chinese national pushed his way through into the room of Ummukulsum and stabbed her to death.
“When we got tired of his knocking, I went out to tell him to keep off our house, but he pushed and went straight into her room and killed her,” the mother of Ummukhulsum had said.
“We then began shouting and neighbours came to our rescue and apprehended him.”
The Kano State government arraigned the Chinese man in court with a charge of murder.
He had claimed that the stabbing of Ummukhulsum was in self-defense.
On Tuesday, March 26, the court ruled that Quangrong was guilty of murder.
He was sentenced to die by hanging.
