Rotary Action Group, FHA Gives Free Medical Services To Lugbe Community

As part of efforts to bridge the gaps that exist in accessing healthcare services especially in the rural communities, the Rotary Club of Lugbe Action Group for Family Health and Aid FHA in commemoration of 2023 Rotary Family Health Day,  has organized free medical outreach to people in Lugbe Community who would otherwise fall between the cracks to critical care.

President, Rotary Club of Lugbe FHA, Rtn Adetundun Adeyemi noted during the exercise that access to healthcare services are part of fundamental human right and rotary club, as parts of it culture of alleviating suffering and bringing hope to hopeless communities, has taken the initiative to render free and quality health services to less privileged people across the country.

Adeyemi said the exercise amongst others includes; Screening, testing and counselling for preventable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TB, hepatitis B & C, malaria, and cancer, adding that children will also be given immunizations such as polio and measles.

He said there will be distribution of  consumable items, like condoms to hygiene packs to malaria meds, all towards ensuring a healthy society.

Also speaking, the Project Chairperson, Rtn Dorothy Ndidi Ossai said all health facilities has been mobilized to ensure a successful service delivery to the people.

Ossai informed that Rotary Family Health Day, is an opportunity to reach out to people especially on cases that has to do with maternal and child health, which include polio vaccination, which is part of rotary commitment to kick out polio from Africa and all over the world.

“Today we are presenting mosquito nets, malaria drugs, birthing kits to pregnant women, we are also running several tests like sugar level, malaria parasite, checking of blood pressure and anyone that we know that need treatment we treat them, and also deworm those that needs to deworming”.

According to her, “this project is of great importance to this people as many of them can hardly afford access to medical facilities since to get medical attention, they have to travel far from the community and most of them can not afford it.

“So we believe that given them these services for free will help reduce their suffering. Because even when they have to go to the clinic, they will have to pay for card to see a doctor, pay for diagnosis and treatment, but here we offer them free.

Exressing his gratitude, the Dakachi of Sauka Karhuta Lugbe, Chief Joself Buba represented by his Personal Assistant, Solomon Kwartong said the exercise was quite apt and commendable considering how challenging the time is.

“There are many who can not afford medical attention, but this exercise has provided them with such opportunity, said Kwartong.

While asking other NGOs to replicate this kind gesture in the community, he said the community do not have any primary healthcare and solicited government intervention.

Appreciating the Club, one of the beneficiaries, Esther Eze thanked the club for bringing health services to their door step, saying this will go a long way to ease them from stress of having to travel far to seek medical attention, especially the awareness and counseling session.
