Again, gunmen kidnap catholic priest in Imo

Gunmen have reportedly abducted a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Michael Ifeanyi Asomugha, along Oriagu-Obowo road in Imo state.

This is according to a statement by the Catholic Diocese of Okigwe and signed by Very Rev. Fr. Princewill Iwuanyanwu, the Chancellor/Secretary of the diocese.

Iwuanyanwu said that Rev. Fr. Michael Asomugha was kidnapped in the evening of April 15 on his way to see a newly Ordained Rev.

“I am directed to inform you that one of our priests, Rev. Fr. Michael Ifeanyi Asomugha was kidnapped on the evening of Saturday, April 15, 2023.

“Rev. Fr. Michael Asomugha who was ordained on Sept. 18, 2021 is the Assistant Parish Priest of St Paul’s Parish Osu, Imo State.

“He was kidnapped along
Oriagu-Obowo road in Imo state, while on his way back from the Diocesan Diaconate Ordination.

“We solicit your fervent prayers that he may come back to us safe and sound, while trusting in your goodwill and solidarity,” he said.

Sister of the victim told NAN that today marks the 10th day since he was kidnapped, adding that he has not been released, but still in the hands of his captives.

“There have not been any concrete news of his well being.

“Please remember him in your prayers, especially for his early release,” she said.

She appealed to anyone with useful information with regards to the victim’s whereabout, not to hesitate to report to the nearest police station in the area/state.
