Breaking: Saudi Arabia announces moon sighting

Eid Al Fitr 2023 will start on Friday, April 21 in Saudi Arabia, officials have announced.

The Shawwal crescent was spotted in Tamir, on Thursday, according to an Al Arabiya reporter, meaning the first day of Eid Al-Fitr will be on Friday, April 21.

Saudi Arabia‘s Supreme Court called on all Muslims to sight the crescent of Shawwal month on Thursday, 29th of Ramadan for this year 1444 AH.

The Kingdom has already declared a four-day weekend for Eid Al Fitr, which will run from April 20 to April 23.

With the moon being sighted, it means Friday will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr in KSA.

The Kingdom is not alone in confirming the start of Eid.

According to social media posts shared by the International Astronomy Centre, Saturday April 22 will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr in Australia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Japan.
