
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2023 general election in Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has been declared the winner of the poll in Katsina State.
The ex-Vice President was declared winner in the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari early on Monday.
Abubakar polled 489,045 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who scored 482,283 votes.
President Buhari was elected on the platform of the APC.
Peter Obi of the Labour Party scored 6,376 votes, while Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party polled 69,386 votes.
The INEC State Collation Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, Prof. Mu’azu Abubakar, announced the result at the Collation Centre in Katsina.
In Ogun state, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been announced winner in all the local government areas of the state.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale noted that registered voters in the state stood at 2,687,606 while 612,341 were accredited for the elections.
In the total votes cast, the All Progressives Congress (APC) pulled 341,554 votes, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had 123,831 of votes cast.
The Labour Party (LP) had 85,829 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) got 10,529 votes and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) had 2,200.
Prof. Adebowale announced that the total valid votes stood at 580,124 and 31,323 were rejected votes, while 611,448 were votes casted for the Ogun state presidential poll.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) also won all the 3 senatorial districts.
Sen. Olamilekan Adeola, currently representing Lagos West senatorial district won the Ogun West senatorial election with a total votes of 112,887 to defeat his closest rival of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ganiyu Obanibasiri, who scored 60,189 votes.
Similarly, former governor, Gbenga Daniel in a landline victory won the Ogun East Senatorial district seat with 115,147 votes to defeat the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) candidates who pulled 58,708 and 13,061 votes respectively.
Former Chief of Staff to the state governor, Shuaib Afolabi Salis won the Ogun Central Senatorial seat. He will be replacing former governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun at the red chamber.
