The Federal Capital Territory Administration ( FCTA), has inaugurated a high-powered inter-agency task team to sustain the ongoing city wide sanitation, comprising demolition of illegal structures, impounding and crushing of errant commercial motorcycles and fight criminalities in the nations capital.
The team which is comprising of the senior management directors drawn from different critical secretariats, departments and agencies ( SDGs) were to further upgrade the synergies with the office of Senior Special Assistant to FCT Minister on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement, to ensure holistic operations that will meet all standards.
The Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Shehu Hadi who is also the leader of the new team, disclosed to newsmen on Wednesday that FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello was worried that illegalities have continued to thrive at different parts of the territory.
Hadi noted that to underscore the importance of the ongoing exercise, meant to return sanity to Abuja, the Minister has incorporated more people into the team.
According to him, the high-powered task team comprises of : ” Coordinator AMMC, Senior Special Assistant to Hon. Minister FCT on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement, Directors of Departments of Development Control, Security Services FCTA, Urban and Regional Planning, Lands Administration, AGIS, Survey and Mapping, Engineering Services FCDA, Resettlement and Compensation, Directorate of Road Traffic Services, Abuja Environmental Protection Board, Parks and Recreation and Chief Security Officers (Police and DSS) “.
He further explained that the ” Minister FCT duly identified all the concerned location and mapped out strategies for effective removal of such illegalities. Critical of such nuisance and illegalities for removal includes and not limited to:
“Illegal structures and other constructed projects at Katampe Extension, Stoppage of clearing for commencement of development at Katampe and other locations.
“Encroachment on the right of way of development of primary infrastructure at Guzape and other locations, Illegal development and encroachment into layouts by villagers in Durumi I, II and III.
“Shanties and illegal structures at Dagba, Monkey Village and Illegal IDP Camp in Durumi District; Illegal operation of Commercial Motorcycles in Durumi, Asokoro, Asokoro Extension, Guzape, Durumi/Area 1, Lugbe, Airport Road and Kubwa Expressway”.
He also added that, ” the Task Team resolved to continue with this exercise to ensure that crime and criminality that is induced by the proliferation of illegal structures, shanties and illegal operation of Commercial Motorcycles is controlled and brought to the barest minimal.
“The FCT Administration through the relevant SDAs (FEMA) to emplace appropriate mechanism to ensure profiling of all IDPs with the view to take further actions.
” Similarly, owners of plots of land within the cleared areas should be identified and notified to take possession of their plots of Land to forestall any possibility of come back by such miscreants.
