Media should be cautious, maintain professionalism in election coverage- ex-Radio Nigeria DG

A former Director-General of Radio Nigeria,Mrs Maria Odeh has called on media houses to stay focused in the coverage of next year’s and future general elections.

Mrs Maria Odey made the call today in Abuja at a two day “Capacity Building Training For Journalists On Issues In The Phases Of The Electoral Cycle”.

The former Director-General noted with concern that the existing political environment requires the media to exercise caution and display of high Professional standards.

According to her,the training is timely and commended the “Institute For Media Society and The European Union” for organizing the workshop.

The former DG urged the participants to utilize the training to equip themselves for better coverages of the Country’s future general elections.

In his remark, the Executive Director, Institute for Media and Society, Dr Akin Akingbulu, emphasized the need for the media houses as gatekeepers to ensure high professionalism, quality contents and patriotism in the discharge of their duties.

The workshop which was attended by journalists from different parts of the Country is focusing on deepening of civic and political education,unbiased coverages of 2023 general elections and election management.
