Honorary degrees are becoming more popular among Nigerian celebrities; this year alone, four Nigerian celebrities have gotten honorary doctorate degrees, most of which are from universities in Benin Republic.

This honorary degree is granted so that the university or college waives or foregoes all degree requirements such as attendance, examination, matriculation course credit, and so on. That is, persons who receive this degree do not have to go through all of the inconveniences associated with the degree program.
Tertiary institutions bestow this degree on prominent individuals to recognise their greatness, commitment to society, and lifetime success. Unfortunately, because this is an honorary degree that cannot be utilized to obtain employment, it has no practical significance in real life.

1. Tiwa Savage
Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian singer, was recently conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree by her alma school, the University of Kent in the United Kingdom.
The University, according to Tribune online, featured images of the Singer on their Social Media Page and congratulated her on her achievement. The singer also stated that she is overjoyed to have received the Honorary Degree.
2. Jalade-Ekeinde, Omotola
Omotola Jalade, another Nollywood actress, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree.
According to TheCable, the Actress received an Honorary Degree from Igbenedion University, Okada in 2019.
According to the university, the actress received the degree for her contributions to human development and progress.
3. Anunobi, Eucharia
Eucharia Anunobi is yet another actress who has received an honorary degree.
The actress received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Christian Leadership and Missions from Kingdom Life Bible College and Seminary International, according to TheCable.
4. Okoye, Peter (Mr P)
Peter Okoye, the music star, received an honorary degree from Escae-Benin University in Benin Republic a few months ago. This degree was given to him in honour of his contributions to music and dance.
5. Ezuruonye, Mike
Mike Ezuruonye, a Nigerian actor, received an honorary doctorate degree in Literature and Art from Estan University in Benin Republic in June 2021.
6. Pretty Mike
Pretty Mike, a Nigerian socialite, also has a doctorate.
7. Abudu, Mo
Mo Abudu has received honorary doctorates from Babcock University and the University of Westminster.
8. Antonio Lecky
Anto Lecky obtained an honorary degree from ISCOM University in Benin Republic in 2018.
