
Born Usman Usman, Chubby AB taps his songwriting inspiration from a diverse exposure of soaking up elements of hip hop, soul, R&B, pop, Jamaican dancehall and Afrobeats to create a unique blend of sound.
Chubby AB is stamping his own niche in the music scene by creating an experience with his songs as he does in his new single titled “Green Light” where he featured OrgNoiz and was produced by Roro Soundz.
The single which is a lead for his forthcoming EP is accompanied by a vibrant display of subtle and pure vocals.
Though a Nupe from Niger state, the fast rising Abuja based music star who is currently not signed to any record label is one who grew up in the city of Abuloma in Rivers State, attended high institution in Ghana and infuses RnB, afropop and dancehall elements in his music.
Chubby AB as he is popularly called, said he started writing music since his late teens and recorded his first single in 2011 after dabbling into music production while growing up in Port Harcourt and studying in Ghana respectively.
He has since recorded a number of hit songs some of which include “DORIME” with Zulkaly and Rymz , “Party Don Set”, an EP(“Outcast”) with Bobby Lyn and T poem in 2016, the “Game Over” Mixtape EP (2021) and recently, in the last few months ,”Muje”, and “Green light” which are all available for download on audiomack.
The Muje crooner while interacting with our correspondent disclosed that he is always working on new music for his listeners and that he is currently putting together a 5 track EP “The Gospel of John” produced by Son of John to give back to his fans for believing in him and constantly supporting his dreams.
When asked what inspires him to do what he does, he has this to say;
“My music is influenced and inspired by my struggles as an individual to be free, to inspire and support others and to prove to my race that being young and proactive doesn’t always lead to chaos.
“I vibe with every genre, be it HipHop, RnB, Afrobeats, Dancehall, Gospel, EDM, etc. It doesn’t matter to me.
” And my best moments are when am on stage performing my songs, building relationships and creating beautiful memories. It gives me joy to make people ease up from the pressures of life. It inspires me to do even better…Aje Butter For Life”.
While the music industry in Nigeria is, to borrow the street slang, ‘choke’ with talents, his disposition to music is one that promises to keep him relevant in the music scene for a long time.
