Arsenal have confirmed that Mikel Arteta has tested positive for COVID-19 and that he will miss Arsenal match against Man City.

The club stated on the official website: “Mikel Arteta will miss our match against Manchester City on New Year’s Day after testing positive for COVID-19.

“Mikel is isolating in line with Government guidelines and we wish him well.”

The Spaniard previously tested positive for the virus in March 2020, shortly before English football was shutdown amid the spread of Covid.

It is expected that Albert Stuivenberg or Steve Round will take charge of Arsenal in Arteta’s absence.

After facing City, Arsenal take on Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on January 6, so Arteta will be hoping to be back in time for this fixture.
