Abducted UNIAbuja lecturers, others remain in kidnappers’ den as ASUU gives FG 48-hour ultimatum

The abducted lecturers and others kidnapped from University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) staff quarters have remained unrescued with their abductors demanding N300 million.

Already, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has handed a 48-hour ultimatum to the federal government to ensure their release.

Obansa Joseph, a professor of economics, two of his children, and three other persons were abducted on Tuesday when gunmen attacked the staff quarters of the university.

The gunmen were said to have demanded N50 million for each person that was taken.

Mustapha Sambo, son of one of the abducted persons revealed that the abductors told his family to provide N100 million ransom after they took his father away.

“They took our phones and his wallet. Then they said they need money. When we said there was no money at home, they took him and said we must bring N100 million before they release him,” he said.
