Court denies Sheikh Abduljabar Kabara bail over safety, peace in Kano

Justice Sarki Yola, the presiding Judge at the Upper Sharia court, Kofar Kudu on Thursday denied bail to the embattled Kano cleric,Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara standing trial for alleged blasphemy, over concerns for his personal safety, and peace in Kano.

The action of the court came on the heels of new legal representations that appeared for the controversial cleric on Thursday sitting, following the controversial withdrawal of his former attorney.

The new Counsel led by Barrister Umar Muhammad who appeared with three others had requested bail for his client to enable the exercise of his right as breadwinner of his family.

Barrister Umar Muhammad further told the court that Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara
has underage children who need his fatherly care.

Similarly, the lead counsel seeks the Court to provide him with the records of proceedings in the case, so that he will peruse the file to know where the case stands.

However, in his response, the presiding Judge, Justice Sarki Yola, denied Sheikh Abduljabar bail insisting that granting him bail will jeopardize his safety as well as create chaos in the State.

He subsequently adjourned the case to October
14th, 2021 to continue in the case.
