Two years after the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), suffered violent attacks from notorious Lungu shanty in Gwarimpa, again FCTA, taskforce was attacked, on Tuesday, eight personnel were injured and three were rushed to the hospital immediately while three young menwere arrested with dangerous weapons during demolition of the area.

There was a mild drama when some of the indigenous youths in the area came out with dangerous weapons, like dane guns, stones, petrol bombs, etc and attacked members of the taskforce team, but the combined team of the security forces were able to over power them.

The youth were throwing stones, petrol bombs, sticks to scare the taskforce team, and in the process two of the personnel were injured but for the courage of the team that faced the hoodlums and over powered them.

The Chairman, FCT Ministerial Committee on City Sanitation, Comrade Ikharo Attah, while answering questions from journalists, condemned the attack on the team and urged the indigenes to stop defending people who commit infractions in Abuja.

According to him, “Today is one of those days we are seeing extreme criminality. We came here after two years that FCTA suffered extreme attacks on this same spot, a place called Lungu in Gwarimpa Abuja, where a machine belonging to FCT worth over N300 million was damaged, some staff were badly injured one of them a Civil Defence officer called Tosin was badly injured and had to undergo two brain surgeries.

Some of the persons here believe that FCTA cannot come to this location, because it is close to this indigenous village here, but we came prepared though they injured a Policeman who has been rushed to the hospital and also injured a staff of Development Control. He had a big cut on his head and some stones were thrown at me, but it didn’t have much impact but my phone was damaged.

“The indigenes should help us not to defend people who commit illegality close to their village, it is very painful that we came under heavy attacks, one of the Dane guns was recovered and the beauty about the whole thing is that Lungu the notorious part of Gwarinpa has fallen, the shanties have been cleaned.

“The village as you can see has been spared but we feel very bad that both sides suffered casualties here”.

On suspects that were arrested he said, “We arrested three people and we are talking to them that they should change their attitude of defending illegalities. The indigenes should stop defending those that are not part of the village and that are committing illegalities because we must remove shanties in Abuja, even if it is the villagers that gave them permission to stay, we must remove them”, he
