Breaking: Court orders psychiatric evaluation of Sheikh Nasiru Kabara

Ahmad Tijjani, Kano

Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola of Higher Shariah court, Kano on Thursday ordered for psychiatric evaluation for Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara following his strange behaviour at a resumed hearing.

Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara who is standing trial for blasphemy suddenly went numb, and kept the court guessing shortly after the court approved the inclusion of fresh charges filed by the lawyers representing Kano state government, which was objected to by Sheikh Kabara’s counsels.

The presiding judge, Sarki Yola, had over-ruled their objections and ordered Abduljabbar to respond to the new charges, but his lawyers asked him to keep mute- which he obliged.

The court verdict that recommended the medical evaluation was sequel to submissions by counsel to Kano State Government, Barr Sa’ida (SAN) that demanded the court to examine the mental health of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir Kabara, under section 278 (8) in ACJL.
