The Emir of Kajuru, Malam Alhassam Adamu, who was kidnapped alongside 10 other members of his community has been freed over 36-hours after his abduction.

The Kaduna state police command, who confirmed his release on Monday said that the Emir, who was abducted in the early hours of Sunday alongside two of his grandchildren, three aides and three women, was released Monday evening alone, as his other co- captives remain in the custody of the kidnappers.

The 85-year-old was released at about 5pm on Monday after spending a night in the custody of the bandits. 

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna state Police Command, ASP Muhammed Jalige, told Blueprint on Monday that, “yes he has been released. 

“The Emir of Kajuru has been released. He was released this (Monday) evening, he is back to his palace. He was released alone. He has been taken to the hospital by his family for medical check up. No ransom was paid for his release,” ASP Jalige said. 

The spokesman of Kajuru Emirate Council, Dahiru Abubakar, also confirmed the release of the emir, saying that Emir Adamu was released at an undisclosed location within Kajuru local government area.

Dahiru said that the Emir is in good condition.
