Konshisha: Ortom wants murdered Soldiers’ arms recovered

The Benue state security council, Tuesday, advised stakeholders and people of the state to restrain from making inflammatory statements capable of escalating insecurity.

The security council equally tasked traditional rulers and other stakeholders to ensure that all the weapons taken from the soldiers murdered at Bonta in Konshisha local government area are returned unconditionally.

Briefing journalists after the state security council at the Government House Makurdi, Governor Samuel Ortom said it was dangerous to allow the arms in the hands of the militia men, noting that so far as such arms remained in the hands of the bandits, Konshisha was not safe.

He said the meeting agreed that as soon as the arms were returned, the state security council would review the situation.

Ortom said during the meeting it was also confirmed that only six persons including two militia members were killed during the military search for the missing soldiers, and not seventy (70) as being alleged in some quarters.

According to him, it was confirmed that militia men were responsible for the killing of soldiers deployed to ensure peace between Konshisha and Oju local government areas.

He said it was resolved at the meeting that all those involved in the killing of the soldiers should be arrested and prosecuted.
