On his second day in Bama, Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, Wednesday, interacted with hundreds of volunteers in the civilian JTF and hunters helping the military to secure Bama.
Zulum, after the meeting, released N8.5m for various interventions, 30 motorcycles and variety of food items to the volunteers.
Of the N8.5m, Zulum allocated100,000 thousand naira each to families 31 CJTF members and 38 hunters and vigilantes, making up 69 families, whose relatives lost their lives, while fighting against Boko Haram.
Zulum promised to ensure that children of the volunteers are enrolled in schools.
The Governor also allocated 10, 000 naira to each to of the volunteers in Bama accompanied with packs of food for each.
Zulum also allocated N1.5m to leadership of the 3 groups of volunteers with each group getting N500,000.
He directed immediate medical attention to a member of the CJTF, who sustained serious injury while fightig the insurgents. The governor directed that he be moved to an orthopedic hospital in Kano. Zulum also gave 250,000 naira to another CJTF who lost his arm while in combat.
Governor Zulum then approved 30 motorcycles to the three groups and promised to rehabilitate all their broken down vehicles and provide new ones where necessary.
He however warned against indiscipline and abuse of the vehicles and other working equipments.
Zulum concluded the meeting by thanking the volunteers for their sacrifices in protecting the people of Borno.

Borno state Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum on Thursday, moved from Bama to Konduga to continue humanitarian and social protection interventions to residents denied means of livelihood by Boko Haram.
Zulum was in Bama since Tuesday and had distributed trucks of food and over N200m to at least 70,000 families, and volunteers fighting Boko Haram and their bereaved families.
Continuing in Konduga town, headquarters of Konduga local government area, Zulum supervised the disbursement of N185m to 26,000 displaced persons, small and medium size business owners and groups of volunteers supporting the military’s fight against insurgents.
From the N185m, the Governor supervised the disbursement of N80m and food varieties to 26,000 displaced households located in three centers: two in Konduga town and one in Mandrari.
The N80m was shared to 16,000 female heads of households, each of whom received food, a wrapper and a token of N5,000.
10,000 male heads of households each received a bag of rice, a bag of maize grill and a carton of spaghetti.
Zulum announced upcoming agricultural initiative to restore farming activities so people could eventually fend for themselves.
… N100m for business owners
To stimulate local businesses in Konduga, Governor Zulum allocated N100m for distribution small and medium sized business holders.
Of the amount, 70 percent of business owners in more populated Konduga town were selected and the remaining 30 percent beneficiaries were drawn from Auno, Dalori and Kawuri towns, all in Konduga LGA.
Zulum however warned the traders to ensure they invest the money in their businesses.
… N5.2m for CJTF, hunters and vigilantes
To boost the moral of local volunteers helping in the fight against Boko Haram, Zulum in Konduga, distributed N5.2m to a combined number of 523 members of the Civilian JTF, hunters and vigilantes.
Each of them received N10,000, amounting to N5,233,000, accompanied by two bags of rice, two bags of maize grill and two packets of spaghetti for each of the 523 fighters.
Zulum also directed each of the volunteer groups to submit a list of their broken down patrol vehicles for immediate repairs, in addition to getting new ones where necessary.
The Governor concluded the event with a call for prayers towards return of peace especially taking advantage of spiritual atmosphere at upcoming ramadan.
