The Federal Capital Territory Ministerial Advisory Committee on the Status of Social Development Service, has called for the certification of some training centers and Public Private Partnership to boost their production capacity.
Assistant Director of Information Mrs Josie Mudasiru, in a statement, said the acting Chairperson of the Committee, Mrs Asabe Umar, made call during an assessment Tour of Social Welfare facilities.
Umar noted that certification of the facilities would increase public participation in social development schemes provided by the FCT Administration.
She also said the certification would encourage many youths to attend training at the centres because they know the certificate would be recognised anywhere.
Umar also reiterated the need for Public Private Partnership to make the centres more functional, saying “government has done it’s part by providing the infrastructure and equipment.
”There is need for private sector to step in to support in terms of more equipment, trainings and Management.”
She revealed that the committee discovered a moribund Rice Mill, Bakery , Garri processing section and others with arts equipment at the Agro Allied Women Centre in FCT.
On her part, Special Assistant to the FCT Minister of State, Simisola Ayoade, while inspecting Groundnut Processing Factory at Kulo in Kuje Area Council, said the facility would be made functional by introducing Public- Private partnership.
The committee has visited four Area Councils so far as it is expected to submit a report on ways that the facilities can better serve the people of Abuja.
