Biden: The Scandals, Tragedies Before The Presidential Triumph

1. Car crash loss of wife and daughter

In 1972, Biden lost his first wife, Neilia and infant daughter, Naomi in a car crash just weeks after his election to the Senate.


2. Plagiarism scandal nixed first presidential bid during his 1987 campaign, Biden had borrowed heavily, without attribution, from a speech given earlier that year by a former leader of Britain’s main opposition, Neil Kinnock.


3. Obama ‘ended’ his second White House bid:

Biden’s second attempt to get to the Oval Office ended when former President Barack Obama beat him in the Iowa caucuses in 2008.
4: Lost beloved son, Beau, to cancer Biden faced another personal tragedy in 2015, when his older son, Beau, died on 30 May 2015 aged 46. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013. 


5. Second son’s drug problem

Biden’s son, Hunter, 50 has battled substance abuse for years. He started drinking as a teenager. He suffered a relapse in November 2010 after seven years of sobriety. He has been in and out of several rehabilitation centres since then.


6. Messy adultery accusation by Jill Biden’s first husband:

William “Bill” Stevenson, Jill Biden’s first husband had alleged that the US president-elect and his wife had an extramarital affair while Jill was still married to him. Stevenson said he kicked out Jill when he found out. The narrative of the Bidens differs.
