Nigerian Army officer reveals bullets used in Lekki Tollgate shooting

A retired colonel of the Nigerian Army, Hassan Stan-Labo, has revealed the class of ammunitions that were used in the shooting of protesters at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State last week.

Stan-Labo who was a guest on Channels Television evening programme, Sunday Politics, said the bullets that were used in the shooting could not have resulted in the death of any protester at the toll gate.

He said, “From the (expanded) pellets I saw on television, the shooting could not have resulted in the death of any protester, because those blanks (bullets) are not designed to kill, but to disperse rioters. At most, the pellets can only cause severe injury when shots are fired at close range.”

The former military officer noted that by his training, he could identify different shots even without looking at the weapons used.

Stan-Labo blamed the escalation of the EndSARS protests across the country to Nigeria’s political class, whom he accused of using their goons on the genuine protesters in order to heat up the polity.

He appealed to political officer holders to rein in their “thugs” from the streets of various major cities of Nigeria, while calling on the Federal Government to meet the demands of the protesters.
