Human rights and constitutional lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, says criminal gangs build and bankroll daily police operations in Nigeria.
Falana accused the Federal Government of abdication of its constitutional responsibility of adequately funding the police force.
The human rights activist who featured on the African Independent Television (AIT) morning programme, Kakaaki, on Tuesday, attributed the endemic police brutality in Nigeria to the absence of adequate policing facilities and incentives.
Falana said police training colleges in the country are primitive and unfit for purpose in the 21st Century.
He advocated for the teaching of human rights courses at police colleges across Nigeria, adding that it was not enough for the Federal Government to ban the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
