Few days after appointing Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli as the new Emir of Zazzau, the Iyan Zazzau, Alhaji Bashir Aminu, has dragged Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state before the Kaduna State High Court.
El-Rufai appointed Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli to succeed Alhaji Shehu Idris who died on September 20. The appointment followed the recommendations of the five kingmakers of Zazzau for the second time.
The Iyan Zazzau was scored highest in the kingmakers’ initial result but that was thrown away by el-Rufai for what he described as irregularities and exemption of two qualified aspirants for the stool.
Alhaji Aminu, in the suit, sought the court to declare that, “having scored the highest number of lawful votes cast by the kingmakers and thus selected by the said kingmakers, he has thus acquired vested right to the stool of the Emir of Zazzau from the date of his selection henceforth”.
