Labour union issues 7-day ultimatum to Nigerian govt over hikes in petrol, electricity tariffs

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has urged the Federal government to reverse the increase in pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and electricity tariff in the next seven days or face a mass action.

The TUC in a letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari said Nigerians “cannot bear the burden any longer.

The Nigerian government had recently removed subsidies on fuel, saying it had fully deregulated the country’s downstream oil sector. 

Similarly, the government increased electricity tariffs, which has generated wide condemnation from civil rights activists across the country.
