The Kano Emirate Council on Tuesday evening suspended Ya’u Mohammad, the Ward head of Sabon Gari, Fagge Local Council of the state over his alleged involvement in child trafficking.
NAPTIP had on Monday announced that it was investigating Malam Ya’u alongside the Fagge Hisbah commander, Jamilu Yusuf for allegedly selling a baby to one Mrs Loveth at N20,000.
Muhammad Umar, the secretary to the Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sunusi, told reporters in Kano that the suspension of the traditional ruler was to pave way for robust investigation by relevant agencies.
Mr Umar said Malam Ya’u would remain suspended from office pending the outcome of an investigation by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The Kano Zonal Commandant of NAPTIP, Umar Shehu had on Monday disclosed that the Agency is investigating two things: illegal adoption and sale of Baby Boy, adding that “we hope to round up our investigation very soon. “
He said “right now three persons, the Hisbah Commander, the Ward head and Mrs Loveth are the prime suspects, while Loveth’s mother was detained for taking into her care the stolen boy”.
The NAPTIP boss said “we have quizzed the trio of the Hisbah Commander in Fagge Local government, the ward head and Mrs Loveth to ascertain their level of complicity.
