The Kano State Government has announced plans to commence distribution of seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention drugs for children between 3 to 59 months to check morbidity and mortality occasioned by malaria among teenagers.
Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, the State Commissioner of Health said the latest effort would be a collaborative venture with an unnamed consortium.
A statement by Hadiza M. Namadi, Information Officer in the Ministry of Health that was made available to VerityNews on Friday quoted the commissioner to have expressed optimism that the set target is achievable with the exhibited dedication and enthusiasm by all the health workers, supervisors and Community Drug Distributers (CDDs).
The signed statement by Hadiza Namadi reads: As the Second Cycle of 4-days of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) Programme in Kano came to an end, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, has commended the dedication of all health workers, Supervisors, and the Community Drug Distributors ( CDD) in discharging their assigned responsibilities.
The commissioner also expressed optimism that the set target is achievable with the exhibited dedication and enthusiasm by all the health workers, supervisors and Community Drug Distributers (CDDs).
Dr. Tsanyawa noted that the state government in its effort to eradicate morbidity and mortality due to malaria has collaborated with a malaria consortium in order to distribute seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention drugs for children of 3 to 59 months to prevent malaria disease.
The Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) Programme is in 4 cycles for 4 days each per month from the month of July to October.
He stated that the Community Drug Distributers (CDD) were recruited across the 44 LGAs in order to distribute the (SMC) drug throughout the state to children of 3 to 59 months old.
The commissioner said more than 80% of the workers were paid stipends for the month of July, while the delay in the payment of the remaining workers was due to the fact that some of their account details did not tally with their names or there exist mistakes in the account details given by them.
Dr. Tsanyawa therefore assured the affected personnel that they will soon receive their payments as the technical team is addressing the issue.
Dr. Tsanyawa commended the Kano state government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on its total commitment in assuring the improvement of health care delivery in the state.
He lastly called on the good people of Kano state to support this intervention so as to achieve a great opportunity provided by the government and to strictly observe Covid 19 guidelines and protocols of maintaining social distance, use of face mask, frequent hand washing using soap and water and use of sanitizer.
