The Benue State Government has rejected the truckload of rice that was donated by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs as COVID-19 palliative.
It would be recalled that the Oyo State Government had recently rejected the Federal Government’s coronavirus palliative of rice donation, alleging that the item had expired.
Similarly, Chairman of the Benue State Emergency Committee on COVID-19 and Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu, said the rice was no longer fit for human consumption.
Speaking to kick start the distribution of COVID 19 palliatives to the state’s 23 local government areas, Abounu stated that though the bags of rice had been taken to the three senatorial districts, the government had decided to return them to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
“Government cannot afford to risk the health of its citizen by giving them expired rice to eat,” said Abounu.
