BUK congregation elects Professor Abbas as VC

Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas on Wednesday won the community acceptance poll, a major process in the selection of a new Vice Chancellor for Bayero University, Kano.

The former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, polled 1,026 votes to defeated his closest rival, Professor Adamu Idris Tanko, who got 416 votes.

The spectacular performance by the former Deputy Vice Chancellor at BUK academic community edged him closer to the plum job in the university.

The final stage of the process is expected to take place on Saturday when the contestants face the selection board.

Barring any last minute change the winner of community acceptance poll usually emerges the Vice Chancellor by the end of the democratic process.
