Covid-19: Lagos orders civil servants to stay at home, banks to reopen

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday said in spite of easing the lockdown today, civil servants should continue to stay at home, while those on level 15 and above should resume as from Tuesday, May 5 (tomorrow).

He said manufacturing and construction companies would be allowed to operate between 9am and 6am, but they should get waiver permission from the state government.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke at a media briefing to provide an update on government’s efforts to contain COVID-19, said affected civil servants on levels 15 and above resident in Ogun State should obey Governor Dapo Abiodun’s directives till May 9, 2020.

He added markets in which food items are sold should open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays while other markets that do not sell food items are to open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The governor said banks would be allowed to open with strict observance of all rules on hygiene and social distancing, just as they should ensure that their Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) are sanitised and provide means of transport for their staff members.

He pointed out eateries and restaurants would be allowed to operate between 9am and 7pm, due to the ongoing Ramadan fasting, but they would only provide take-away packs and orders with eat-in services.

Sanwo-Olu also said commercial transportation would operate from 6am to 7pm but must convey only 60 per cent carrying capacity, while employees of local government and local council development area offices should remain at home, unless otherwise by their chairmen.
