Biden wins Mississippi, Missouri and Michigan primaries

US networks are projecting that former US Vice President Joe Biden will win the primaries in Mississippi, Missouri and Michigan.

The Democratic party held primaries in six states on Tuesday: Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Idaho, Washington, and Michigan.

Michigan is the biggest prize of the night with 125 delegates at stake. The number of pledged delegates required to secure the nomination is 1,991, more than half the total of 3,979 pledged delegates.

Speaking following the projections, Biden thanked rival Sen. Bernie Sanders and touted party unity.

“I want to thank Bernie Sanders and his supporters for their tireless energy and their passion,” Biden said in Philadelphia. “We share a common goal—and together we’ll defeat Donald Trump.”
