UAE Wrestling and Judo Federation calls off all competitions due to coronavirus

The UAE Wrestling and Judo Federation announced the cancellation of all its competitions until further notice to help combat the spread of coronavirus.

In a statement, the Federation said the decision was made in response to advice and directives issued by the country’s health authorities.

In comments carried by Wam, the state news agency, Mohamed bin Thaaloob Al Derei, head of the UAEWJF, explained that the decision includes all local and international championships across all age groups and divisions.

He added that the decision to halt all sports activities does not include the athletes and teams preparing for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics 2020.

The UAE on Friday recorded 15 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of cases in the Emirates to 45.

The news follows an announcement by the Dubai Sports Council on Thursday that sports providers in the city should postpone all sports-related activities until the end of March 2020, before clarifying that the circular was related to those “events with international participation”, and that other activities could proceed.
