Coronavirus: Delta state on red alert

The Delta State Government has placed all health-related institutions and disease control mechanisms in the state on red alert in readiness for any possible case of the disease.

The alert was based on the reported case in Lagos on Thursday, as Delta is among the five high-risk states for the airborne disease because of the availability of seaports and airport.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye, while addressing journalists in Asaba yesterday, said the state had switched from watch mode to alert mode due to the reported Lagos case.

He said: “The team that successfully managed Lassa fever has built enough capacity and shown commitment to address any health challenge. The seaports in Warri, Sapele, Koko and Oghara have been designated as holding centres for any possible outbreak.”

All hospitals across the state have been mandated to designate an isolated area as detention centre for any case of the dreaded disease, he added.
