Atletico Madrid got off to a solid start in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first-leg match on Tuesday night with a 1-0 home win over Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano Arena in the Spanish capital.
Saul Niguez scored the lone goal in the fourth minute, shooting from close range, but former European champs Liverpool still started pouring on the pressure.Liverpool had possession of the ball for 73 per cent of the match and eight shots on goal compared to Atletico’s seven.
Atletico will hold the advantage when the second leg takes place in Liverpool on March 11.
