Strong indications have emerged that the former administration of Abdulazeez Yari collected handsome donations from the Saudi Arabia Government to build a school and no school was built while the donation itself was nowhere to be located, spokesman to the governor, Zailani Bappa revealed in a statement.
This indication was given by the Committee on projects verification set up by the state Government when it submitted its interim report to Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle at the Government house and it has strong evidence in this regard.
However, Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar Gusau said the Yari administration cunningly deployed state government funds generated from federation account and other sources to finance the foundation building of the State University at Talata-Mafara.
“Those who know about the donation once advised the former Governor to turn the newly built Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital into the school as a cover-up, which Yari did not heed”, the Chairman noted.
“Whatever the case may be, Your Excellency, your administration should dig into this matter and ask for refund because with this scandal covered, we risk the anger of not getting any more support from our friends abroad again”, the Chairman advised.
While receiving the report, Governor Matawalle said the committee was not set up to witch-hunt anybody, but to verify Government asset and liabilities.
Governor Bello Mohammed commended the zeal and commitment of the committee and promised to peruse its report with the view of implementing its recommendations.
