Over 847 Nigerian soldiers on the frontline of the Boko Haram war in Maiduguri have been killed between 2013 and this year.
Senator Ali Ndume said the figure does not include those buried in Abuja, Yobe and Adamawa states.
Ndume, who is the Senate Committee Chairman on Army, was on an oversight functun in Maiduguri and went to the military baracks and cemetary to see things for himself.
He commended the soldiers for doing a good job, despite the lean resources allocated to defence, which has made it impossible to acquire the needed equipment to fight the enemy.
Ndume spoke on Channels’ television politics today programme monitored by Verity News online.com.
He said the miserable defence budget of N100 million is inadequate to fight Boko Haram effectively.
He decried the activities of civil societies who he accused of giving incorrect information about the situation on ground.
