Yobe gov hosts victorious female hockey team


The Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni has hosted the state’s Female Hockey Team which won the 2019 National Super League Championship.


In a speech at an event at to receive the victorious team at the Yobe Government House in Damaturu, Alhaji Buni said the trophy won by the team is a measure of “resilience, discipline and team spirit” that characterise the female hockey team’s sporting exploits. 

In a statement issued by Abdullahi Bego, Director-General of a media Affairs, Government House,  Governor Buni was quoted as praising the team’s accomplishment, saying “their success is a pride for us all”.

Governor Buni has also approved the sum of N200, 000.00 to each of the 18 members of the female hockey team as a token of appreciation for their effort.

The trophy won by the team was presented to the governor by the team’s coach Lucy Michael.

The team is set to represent Nigeria in the African Hockey Championship  in Egypt in December, 2019.
