Josh Maja opened his goal account for French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux with a well taken goal in their 1-1 draw against Montpellier for their first point of the season.
Maja joined Bordeaux from Sunderland in January for a fee believed to be around €1.7M but he found it a bit hard to replicate his 15 goal haul in the English League One in the French top division.
Last season he scored just once in seven games, a tally he has already equaled with just two games into the season to steady himself for a better season than last time out.
However even while he was struggling to find his feet in France, coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has his eyes on him even before the move as he trained with the Super Eagles in London during their training camp ahead of the friendly game against Senegal two years ago.
Rohr was impressed with his performance and was pleased to see him move from the English third tier to the French top division. A move which he believe will help his chances of playing for the senior national team of Nigeria in a not too distant future.
