The deputy speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Nojeed Fatai, has resigned.
The Chief Whip of the Assembly, Sanni Okanlawon, has also resigned from his position.
This is as lawmakers at the House have hailed Speaker Mojisola Meranda for listening to the All Progressives Congress and “letting go.”
Meranda may be resigning from the position of Speaker anytime soon as the lawmakers salute her 49 days of leadership so far.
“The entire chamber is in tears. You have restored the spirit of friendship, comradeship and loyalty to this House. We have seen the sense of belonging and sense that party is supreme,” lawmaker Temitope Adewale, said.
“To my dear colleagues, this is not the end, this Asiwaju’s House. Let’s not lose hope, things will change for better,” he added.
“You did very well but as we know, we are politicians and as politicians, our party is supreme. We’re proud party men and our party has spoken. I thank the deputy speaker and everyone that may be affected. We are around to obey the party, we are not ashamed of it. Madam Speaker, I pray for you, God Almighty will be with you.”
“You have listened to the Speaker and willing to let go,” another lawmaker said.
Other principal officers are also resigning at the moment.
