Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone has passed away at the age of 63 following a tragic car crash in Alabama, her daughter confirmed.
“My mommy is gone,” her daughter, Diamond Stone, wrote in a Facebook post.
According to media reports, Stone was fatally injured early Saturday when the van she was traveling in overturned following a performance.
A Legacy in Music
Angie Stone was known for hits such as No More Rain (In This Cloud) and Wish I Didn’t Miss You and was a three-time Grammy nominee. She began her career in the 1970s as a member of The Sequence, one of the first female hip-hop groups.
The group’s most notable song, Funk You Up, reached No. 15 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart and remains a significant part of early hip-hop history.
Her daughter, who performs under the name Ladi Diamond, shared her heartbreak in another Facebook post, writing that she felt “numb.”
Just hours before, she had asked for prayers for her family while traveling.
Details of the Crash
A spokesperson for Stone’s family told the BBC that her loved ones had traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, and would release further details soon.
Guy Todd Williams, known as Rahiem from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, revealed that about nine other passengers were in the van with Stone at the time of the accident.
“She left her indelible mark on the music industry initially as a member of the legendary rap group Sequence,” Williams said, confirming that Stone was the sole fatality in the crash.

In addition to her celebrated music career, Stone found success in the film industry.
She made her movie debut in The Hot Chick (2002), starring Rob Schneider, Rachel McAdams, and Anna Faris. She later appeared in The Fighting Temptations (2003), alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beyoncé.
