Ex-DG of NBC, Prof Tom Adaba

Professor Tom Adaba is dead. he was former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). He died in the early hours of today.

Information at our disposal indicate that he died after a protracted illness. he was 82.

Secretary of Egbira Elders’ Forum, Adinoyi Anibasa was quoted to have said in a condolence that, “that I feel sad to inform you that our elder and leader, Professor Tom A. Adaba just gave up the ghost”


The doyen of broadcasting in Nigeria was born on July 2, 1941, he had been indisposed for a while and was taken to hospital for medical attention when he found it difficult to eat.

“He got better and started to eat, but soon had a relapse. They said he needed blood. Around 5:00 O’clock this morning I got a call that he has gone to be with the Lord,” the source lamented.

“Further details about his burial arrangements would be communicated later.

“We thank God for his life. May God have mercy on him and forgive his shortcomings and grant his soul eternal and peaceful rest in His Heavenly Kingdom, Amen.

“He was the first Nigerian (between 1988 and 1992) to be honoured as president of the African Council for Communication Education,” Mr Anivasa said.
