Niger State government has said that until the military gives a demined order of Areas suspected to have mines planted by terrorists in farms along the fringes of Basa, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, the locals should continue to restrict their movement to avert explosion.
The Commissioner for Homeland Security Bello Abdullahi stated this in Minna shortly after the 2024 Base Socio-Cultural Activities (BASA) held at the 013 Quick Response Force, Nigerian Air Force Minna.
According to Abdullahi, the military must first clear the area of mines before locals can safely move around.
The commissioner also noted that terrorists have begun planting bombs, indicating a heightened military effort to eliminate terrorist and bandit activity in the region.
Base Socio-Cultural Activities BASA as it is referred to is an annual celebration marking the end of a successful operational year of the 013 Quick Response Force. The core of it is showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Nigerian Air Force personnel and promoting unity among personnel families and host community.
Niger State Governor Umaru Bago who was Represented by the commissioner for Homeland security, Bello Abdullahi said the State government is mindful of suspected mines planted by terrorists inthe Shiroro Local Government Area of the State adding that the state is relying on the military to have Areas cleared of mines.
The commander 013 Quick Response Force of the Nigeria Air Force Minna, Group Captain Austine Idoko expressed the willingness of the Air Force under the Chief of Air Staff to sustain operations intended to clear the state of banditry and terrorism.
In a heartwarming moment, wives of personnel interviewed by Channels Television expressed happiness with the event and prayed for the safe return of their spouses serving on the battlefield.
On the morning of the 19th of December 2024, a series of three bomb explosions rocked the Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, resulting in the loss of three lives and injuring five others.
The community has said that there are more bombs allegedly planted by the terrorists.
