The Kogi State Government has announced the immediate closure of Zango Market near Osara and a ban on roadside truck parking in the area.
The state commissioner for information and communication, Kingsley Fanwa, in a press circulation, said the decision was in response to escalating security concerns in Osara and its surroundings.
Fanwo said that intelligence reports revealed that criminal elements had been using the market as a hideout, often carried out in collaboration with some truck drivers who park along the roadside, posing significant risks to the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, and the surrounding community.
He said, in addressing these threats, the government has given a one-week period starting today (Wednesday) for the market operators and truck drivers to comply with the directives . And after these period, enforcement measures will be implemented.
He revealed that the state Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed the Secretary to the State Government to communicate these orders to all relevant stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, to ensure effective compliance.
Fanwo added that the Office of the State Security Adviser has also been tasked with overseeing security operations during and after the implementation of these measures.
He reassured the residents of states of the administration’s commitment to the safety of its citizens, emphasising that proactive actions will continue to be taken to eradicate criminal activities and uphold law and order in the State.
Fanwo further expressed gratitude to residents for their vigilance and contributions to the state’s grassroots security framework, urging continued cooperation in safeguarding the community.
