Juventus legend, Buffon has made a huge claim, revealing that footballing superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at the club made the Bianconeri “lose the DNA of being a team” and scuppered their chances of winning the Champions League.
Ronaldo joined Juventus in the summer of 2018 a year after they reached the final of the Champions League and Buffon who was at Paris Saint-Germain at the time believes that the team had changed by the time he returned in 2019.
“Juventus had the chance to win the Champions League the first year he arrived, which was the year I was at Paris Saint-Germain, and I couldn’t figure out what happened. When I returned, I worked with CR7 for two years and we did well together, but I think Juventus lost that DNA of being a team,” he told TUDN.com.
“We reached the Champions League final in 2017 because we were a side full of experience, but above all we were a single unit and there was this competition for places within the group that was very strong. We lost that with Ronaldo.”
Despite such claims, there remains no doubt that Ronaldo was brilliant for the Bianconeri during his three-year spell in Turin, scoring 101 goals in just 134 appearances and leading the club to two Serie A titles and one Coppa Italia honour.
