Kano varsity to punish students over assault on female students

Professor Shehu Alhaji, Vice Chancellor, Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, on Tuesday promised to punish students alleged to have assaulted a female student on the campus recently.

Professor Alhaji said that already the security department has identified seventeen (17) students in connection to the student’s harassment.

The students of the fledgling tertiary institution have been trending on social media for assaulting and harassing a female student while passing through the male hostel around Area 1 axis.

In a video seen by this tabloid, the students were seen dragging the cloth of the female student, shouting “mai Abaya” at her.

The victim was seen in the video trying to stop them from dragging her cloth, only for the students to disperse and re-convene.

Professor Shehu Alhaji in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano explained that the unversity has constituted a committee headed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academy to identify the unnsrupolus elements involved.

Also, the committee is to recommend immediate disciplinary action to be taken against the culprits without delay to serve as deterrent to others.

He said the committee will this evening present its interim report and recommendations to the university management for further disciplinary action.

The Vice Chancellor therefore appreciated the support of the entire KUST students in maintaining discipline, calmness and confidence in the management in pursuance of students’ rights.
