The Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, has been presented with an award by the Students Union Government (SUG) of Bayero University Kano (BUK) chapter in recognition of his contribution to youth development and student empowerment through various programmes he instituted at the University of Abuja in the last one year.
The award tagged ‘’Icon of Humanitarian Service” was presented to Professor Na’Allah on the Main Campus of the University by President of SUG, BUK chapter, Comrade Sadi Garba Sa’id and executives of the Union, who paid the Vice-Chancellor a courtesy call, Dr Habib Yakoob, Head, Information and University Relations revealed in a statement.
Comrade Sa’id said they had closely studied the administration of the Vice-Chancellor in the last one year and were intrigued by his performance and achievements.
He said the University’s Student Employment Scheme, the Internship and Linkages service as well as the Student Mentorship programmes, introduced by Professor Na’Allah would provide the students with many opportunities during their stay in the University and upon graduation.
The union leader said there was a lot to learn from Professor Na’Allah whom he described as having demonstrated “unequal and enviable leadership quality” adding that the visit was also to enable the SUG as future leaders to “learn a thing or two from the relationship that was going to be built through the visit.”
He further said, “We see him as an accomplished leader and academic and who has brought tremendous changes to the University of Abuja and touched the welfare of our students and guided them into mentorship.”
Receiving the award, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, said he appreciated the award by the Union, adding that it is the responsibility of any leader to touch on the lives of his subjects.
He challenged union leaders to respect their oath of office by serving those who had put their trust in them, stressing that the nation and the world would be a good place to live if “we all play our parts dutifully.”
