The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) on Monday secured two convictions against one Usman Sabo and Yahya Ali for cable theft within its franchise area.
Ibrahim Sani Shawai, Head, Corporate Communications, KEDCO in a statement made available to VerityNews in Kano said the conviction was secured from two magistrate in the city.
The signed statement by Mr. Shawai reads : The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) says it has secured two convictions against three accused persons who were involved in electric cable theft at two different magistrate courts in Kano state.
According to the Management, Usman Sabo and Yahya Ali were sentenced to four months imprisonment by Magistrate court 66 Koki while Babangida Lawal was to pay a fine to KEDCO or serve 18 months if he defaults in payment of the fine as sentenced by Magistrate Court 77.
This is part of the tireless efforts being put in place by KEDCO in order to arrest the activities of vandals and theft of KEDCO facilities and installations.
This is done to ensure that we protect the interest of customers and also to continue to ensure that we give uninterrupted supply and better service delivery to the general public.
This conviction will also serve as a deterrent to those who are still in the business of vandalism and theft, as KEDCO will not relent in its effort to bring the activities of economic saboteurs to a halt through the instrument of the law.
We also appeal to community leaders to help KEDCO end the activities of vandals and other related issues by reporting suspected attempts in that regard to KEDCO or security personnel.
