The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Abia State, Dr. K.C.K Nwangwa, has lauded the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as it continues to be vociferous in its determination to do things differently by not echoing or subscribing to the self-defeating statement such as: “this is how we used to do it.”
The Commissioner dropped this hint when the JAMB Abia State Coordinator, Mr. Chidebe A. Achunine, in the company of the State Technical Advisor, Mr. Ikechukwu Ollawa, paid a courtesy visit to his office recently.
He commended JAMB for the timely innovations taking place in the Board, particularly the partnership between the Board and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), adding that the State Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the principals in the state would assist the Board to achieve its objectives for the advancement of education in the state and the nation at large.
In his remarks earlier, the State Coordinator had expressed appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner and his team for the warm reception.
He briefed their hosts on the positive transformations taking place in the Board. These, according to him, included the recent introduction of National Identification Number (NIN) as part of the requirements for the 2029 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which is to comply with the Federal Government’s directive as well as holistically address the challenges of multiple registrations.
He said NIN would be used to check multiple registrations, impersonation and arbitrary change of data, among others. He equally informed them of the Board’s intention of deploying NIMC staff to various accredited Computer Based Test (CBT) centres to attend to candidates who might not have obtained their NIN before registration.
He reiterated the Board’s commitment to achieving a better working relationship with the Abia State Government and appealed to the good people of the state not to relent in their support to the Board.
