…Records 3,040 cases in 2019
England’s Examination regulator has expressed concern over the alarming rate of examination infractions in the 2019 summer examination in the country.
OFQUAL, said it has penalized 3,040 for cheating in 2019 noting that crimes ranging from cheating on mobile phones, cyber attack on school and leaked or fake exam papers among other infractions were discovered during the 2019 exercise.
The statement published in the UK Guardian Newspapers says students are using technology to perpetuate all forms of malpractices
The statement reads in parts “data collected by OFQUAL which overseas GCSE and A/level examinations shows that a rising number of students were caught bringing phones into the examination venues last summer, while the regulator also reports that schools have been hit with hacking efforts affecting documents stored electronically.
OFQUAL said in its report on the 2019 exam season.
“Where exam boards were able to identify students, they sanctioned those students who had requested or had shared the information. We also saw an increase in the number of social media posts offering fake exam materials for sale. We are concerned that such practice fuels exam anxiety and undermines confidence in the exam system.”
OFQUAL said that the exam board had reported three cases of delivery failures, this year caused by cyber attack including the use of ransomware software that threatens to lock unless a ransome is paid.
