Twenty five people have lost their lives on Bauchi- Kano road around Gubi village after a head-on collision between a Toyota Hummer bus and J5 bus.
In a statement by DSP Kamal Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Police Command, the accident occured on Thursday 12/12/2019 at about 0630hrs.
The Toyota Hummer bus was conveying twenty two (22) passengers and the J5 bus had four passengers and twenty (20) cows.
According to the statement, the accident occurred when the two vehicles were coming towards opposite direction and on reaching a point along the road, they had a head-on collision, which resulted in the death of almost all the passengers.
The victims were said to have been evacuated from the scene by security agents with assistance from good samaritans to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for treatment, where 25 passengers were confirmed dead while one survived.
Investigation revealed that all the passengers inside the Toyota Hummer bus were loaded from Katsina on their way to Yola while the passengers in the J5 bus were from Bauchi on their way to Kano.
At the time of filing the report, only four (4) corpses from the J5 bus were identified by their families and released for burial while twenty one (21) from the Toyata Hummer bus are yet to be identified and claimed by their families.
The Command therefore called on members of the public who their family member(s) left Katsina to Yola on the day in question to check at the ATBU Teaching Hospital.
